Frequently Asked Questions

Can You Make Me A Star?

NO. We can take you to the edge and connect you with the right resources but ultimately it depends on your talent, hard work and perseverance.

Can You Make Me sound Like .... (insert name here)

We could but we won't. Someone elses success is based on their own unique sound and vocal style. The music industry already has the original and is resistant to copy cats. We will develop your own sound and uniqueness that is not out there.

I want to sing but I don't have any songs

Not a problem. We have a huge selection of songs just waiting for the right singer. And if you don't like any of our tunes we will write songs for you or let you sample material from our associate songwriters.

What do I do for musicians?

Part of the RanMor Production team are seasoned innovative studio musicians ready to create and make your song the best it can be.

Where can I find a Recording Studio?

We use certain studios in the area that have proven themselves to be the highest calibre and of equal commitment to quality. The engineers and I have developed a cohesive approach to recording and mixing. Of course, depending on your budget, we could use other facilites. We use the industry standard to record your music with, Pro-tools.

How much do you charge to listen to and evaluate my demo or song?

Absolutely NOTHING. There are some unscrupulous folks out there that do charge for an opinion and a critique. In fact they are so pervasive that we get asked this question a lot which means many of you are getting ripped off. If you think you have a number one hit and want to send it to us then feel free to do so. If we like it then it will be auditioned to our recording artists for their consideration ..... NO Charge.

How much is it to record songs written by you or your associate writers?

Absolutely NOTHING. Myself and the associate writers consider it an honour that you have selected our material for your project. Some people try to charge for this or try to sell you the song. Avoid them. If the song does well on radio or T.V. we get royalties from them.

Will you produce ANYONE?

No. People I work with must have talent and at least a fair chance of success. Plus I will not work with artists who use obsenities, vulgarities or blasphemous lyrics in their songs so please don't even ask.

What is "MAPL" and how does it work?

The "MAPL" system refers to the four elements in the Radio Regulations used to qualify musical selections as Canadian. These elements were selected, as part of the Canadian content regulations, following an extensive public hearing process. The MAPL system is designed to stimulate all components of the Canadian music industry and to be as simple as possible for the industry to implement and regulate.
How does it work?
To qualify as 'Canadian content' a musical selection must generally fulfill at least two of the following conditions:
M (music) -- the music is composed entirely by a Canadian.
A (artist) -- the music is, or the lyrics are, performed principally by a Canadian.
P (production) -- the musical selection consists of a live performance that is (i) recorded wholly in Canada, or (ii) performed wholly in Canada and broadcast live in Canada.
L (lyrics) -- the lyrics are written entirely by a Canadian.

If an American singer records songs written by a Canadian and does so in Canada they would qualify as Canadian content and receive preferential airplay on radio as MPL. the A would be the only designation missing.
The MAPL acronym and logo were created by Stan Klees for RPM Weekly and are used by both the English and French sectors of the Canadian music industry.

What is the Most Important aspect of recording?
